What does a 60 minute pain management plan appointment include?
Pelvic pain is complex and women may have several different pain symptoms. They may also have a long history of previous procedures or treatments. Longer consultations offer the opportunity to care for a wider range of symptoms and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each treatment approach in more detail during a single appointment.
Before your appointment
If you have had surgery in the past, we ask you to obtain a copy of the Operation Sheet or photographs taken by your gynaecologist at that time, as well as any other important documents that relate to your pain. If you do not have these details, our staff can help you obtain them.
We will send you a questionnaire to complete that asks about a wide range of pain issues, and helps us understand the full picture of your pain more effectively.
We ask that you read the free Pelvic Pain Booklet available from the Pelvic Pain Foundation of Australia at http://www.pelvicpain.org.au/information/pelvic-pains/free-pelvic-pain-booklet/
You will need to obtain a referral from your doctor.
At your consultation
Dr Evans will discuss your pain with you, explain the different aspects of your pain, and wish to know the particular issues that concern you most. She will discuss treatment options with you and help you decide which treatment options suit your personal situation best.
She will provide you with a copy of her book, Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain, for further reading, and explain the particular areas that relate to your pain.
After your consultation
Dr Evans will prepare a comprehensive management plan for you, with a copy of the plan sent to both you and your doctor.
You will have the option of making a review appointment with Dr Evans 1-2 months later to assess your progress – or returning to your doctor to work through the recommendations in the management plan yourself.
Please note: Dr Evans offers a consultation service in pelvic pain. Your day to day care remains with your normal Doctor. Dr Evans does not offer a full gynaecological service, laparoscopic surgery, or afterhours care.
